Honda Gets Into Social Gaming Sponsors Car Town

Honda's new CR-Z features strongly in the newly launched Facebook Game Car Town. The 2 month deal includes branded billboards, Car Town styled CR-Z replicas for purchase and branded showrooms with TV's playing the CR-Z commercial. Albeit a rather traditional way of getting into social gaming, the CR-Z/Car Town partnership is a great example of how big brands are splitting their budgets to get into the social gaming space. Not a new diagram, but definitely one of the best at showing the life cycle of a tweet (that is if it's really good)

Bloggers aren't who you think they are. Far from the stereotypical mental image of a thick rimmed four-eyed geek glowing  in a dark room behind a screen in Star Trek pyjamas, the stats are confirming what most social media marketers already know: bloggers are influencers and go-getters.

Old Spice. The Number Are In.

Say what you will about social media but the Old Spice campaign shows just what can happen to a brand when they devote themselves to realtime communication to their fans. Note that while the television commercial launched the concept and established "The man your man could smell like" as an instant hit, it was incredible use of social media that propelled it the heights it reached. Wieden Kennedy deserve kudos for an unprecedented approach to creating brilliantly executed responses to fans, but even bigger respect is due for the client who dared to do something a little edgy in a stale category.

Infographic: The State of LinkedIn

The-state-of-linkedin

With 653 000 people signed up, LinkedIn is no small fry on the SA Social Networking scene, even though everyone I ask about LinkedIn is on it, but doesn't know why. My belief is that LinkedIn is the Social Network to watch in Mzansi. As more corporate sector South Africans get tech smart and engage with social media enough to "trust" it,  we'll see more people extracting more palpable business value out of this service.
